 What is love?

I'm not sure, to be honest. I've never "fallen in love". I've never even dated! So I don't have a lot of personal stories about love, except for love of family and friends. I suppose, if the way movies and books describe love is correct, love is when you like being around a person, feel a connection to the other person, feel physically attracted to them. People act foolish and unlike themselves when they are in love. You enjoy being around someone.

There are different types of love. There is family love, which is love for your family. This love doesn't involve lust.

There is falling in love with someone. This is usually a more intimate and "fiery" kind of love.

There is love for your friends. This love doesn't involve lust, but is a type of love that nearly everyone has. This love is usually as intense as actually falling in love with someone.

This is how Romeo and Juliet fall in love in Shakespeare's famous play, which I'm reading now. According to BBC.com, when you fall in love at firsts site, it's of course first at physical attraction (the persons body and face). Then is:
  • 55% is through body language
  • 38% is the tone and speed of their voice
  • Only 7% is through what they say

  1. In English we only have one word for all of the different types of love that exist...no wonder we are confused :)
